October 26-27, 2000 Meeting

Agenda for October 26th:

9:00 AM VM Platform Update
It's a great time to be a mainframe user! We have an architecture that is the envy of the industry, with a growing set of solutions and opportunities to help your company achieve greater success in this e-business world. Come hear about the latest technology advances being made in the VM product and its underlying platform that support these claims.
The speaker will be Mr. Reed Mullen of the IBM Corporation.
10:30 AM Coffee Break
10:45 AM Linux and VM Update
Linux for S/390 is on the fast track. Functional improvements are being made at a rapid pace. This is true for the Linux kernel as well as associated products from IBM and others in support of the environment. Catch the latest news on improvements from IBM for Linux in this session, and get an updated perspective of what Linux means for VM customers...not to mention what VM means for Linux customers.
The speaker will be Mr. Reed Mullen of the IBM Corporation.
12:00 PM Lunch Break
1:30 PM Administration and Vendor Announcements
1:45 PM Want to measure Linux? - So do I...
This presentation is a look at technologies for the analysis of performance, capacity planning, and service level agreements. Want to know why one vendor supports a new release at announce and another takes a year or more? Want to know how to evaluate a processor change? DASD changes? Lots of good questions!

This presentation is Research in Progress that will hopefully wind up with the technology to measure Linux systems. Techniques and technology will be presented for analyzing and solving problems in performance measurement, capacity planning, and service level agreements.

I invite you to share your experience to add to this hopefully interactive session.

The speaker will be Mr. Barton Robinson of Velocity Software.
2:45 PM Coffee Break
3:00 PM Free-for-All
Members will attempt to answer any reasonable VM or hardware related questions. If you are having a problem and want to find out if others are experiencing it, or you are installing new hardware or software and want to find out what types of problems others have experienced, here is the place to find out.
