2:00 PM Network Monitoring with Linux
Networked systems perform critical tasks for businesses. It is important to know when these systems are unavailable or are running in a degraded state. Performance monitors tell you how well a system is running, a network monitor can tell you whether a system is running.

This session will introduce the Hobbit Network monitor, an open source package that can monitor system availability. The installation, configuration, and administration of Hobbit will be discussed as well as integration into an existing zSeries infrastructure.

The speaker will be Mr. Rich Smrcina of VM Assist, Inc.
3:15 PM Coffee Break
3:30 PM Managing Performance in z/VM
Mac Holloway is a development manager for IBM Tivoli. He will be presenting the Tivoli history and roadmap for managing performance in the z/VM environment. This will include both the long-time IBM and Candle products. The future will be based on the OMEGAMON XE/DE infrastructure and address the z/VM and Linux guest performance data correlation. The OMEGAMON XE/DE infrastructure provides an extensible framework for identifying and debugging performance problems across platforms and applications.
The speaker will be Mr. Mac Holloway of IBM/Tivoli.
4:45 PM Free-for-All
Members will attempt to answer any reasonable VM or hardware related questions. If you are having a problem and want to find out if others are experiencing it, or you are installing new hardware or software and want to find out what types of problems others have experienced, here is the place to find out.
Members are encouraged to bring ideas for future presentations and speakers to this meeting.
